Valentine’s Day is an orgy of consumerism. I mean, since my days as a young lad unaware of the forces of marketing, this holiday has evolved into something way more expensive and complex than folding a piece of paper in half and cutting out a heart. Maybe I’m just being a grumpy, cantankerous parent. Maybe it doesn’t matter as long as today’s children have an excuse to have fun doing arts and crafts at school. But I suspect there will always be some conniving adult trying to evolve this holiday into a vehicle for making more and more money.
